Dear Member,
Welcome to the 5th issue of the Low Carbon Innovation Bulletin, the first of our weekly Low Carbon Innovation Bulletins.
As a result of great feedback on the bulletin, we've decided to publish it on a weekly basis, ensuring that Network members are kept right up to date with news, tips and case studies.
This week's bulletin features 4 case studies from the Network, all of which are amongst the 40+ case studies that will be presented at the Low Carbon Innovation Exchange on June 14th. Detailed in this issue are insights on gaining board buy-in, recording carbon emissions in domestic sources, dramatically reducing gas consumption and working towards sustainable development.
As usual the bulletin includes a round up of news stories and some best practice ideas on reducing emissions in your organisation.
Just as a reminder, the Low Carbon Innovation Exchange will be taking place on June 14th, so if you haven't already, please book your place here
Best regards
Dominic Matthews

So how can you be involved?
-- Have you got any experience on a carbon reduction initiative that you would be willing to share with a small group of counterparts?
-- Or is there a specific challenge you face, where a collective brainstorm may help provide some of the answers for yourself or others?
Previous participants who have led or facilitated discussion groups at similar best practice events have rated the peer interaction to be very valuable, both in terms of exchanging experience and bringing together networks of people sharing an interest or challenge.
In recognition of your contribution, all topics accepted into the programme will qualify for a complimentary place at the Exchange.
So if you are interested in hosting a roundtable group on a topic of interest, please send an email to laura@carbon-innovation.com and we will call you to discuss the options.
Expert panel sessions on the day will cover a range of subjects, giving network members an insight into how carbon emissions are being reduced around the world, and also the opportunities that the future holds for reducing them further.
Panel sessions on the day will focus on minimising carbon emissions and creating bottom line savings, micro power generation, adapting products to suit new low carbon demands and supply chain partnerships.

Locating domestic sources of carbon emissions in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) and finding the means to report them back to the council seemed obvious to Energy and Health Officer Emma Flower, who set up the Affordable Warmth Strategy around two years ago.

The most challenging aspect of Senior Environmental Policy and Projects Officer Paul Baker is "making sure architects, consultants are aware of the requirements, the information we want from them and the targets we want them to meet," he says.
Baker's team works with some of London's major property developers to help them attain compliance with energy efficient building requirements within the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.

Please visit the forum here and share a tip that you have for organisations to reduce their carbon emissions. Often the very simplest ideas can have the greatest effect in reducing carbon emissions:
Reduce office paper consumption. A government funded report says that office paper consumption is rising by 20% per year. On average each worker uses 50 sheets of A4 a day. Why not add the slogan "Think before you Print" to the bottom of your emails?
Air deflectors fitted to floor outlets of ducted systems will force the air into the centre of the room, providing better temperature control.
When choosing the colour scheme for your workplace it is important to remember that light colours reflect light and heat, while dark colours absorb light and heat. Roofing with a black or dark surface can cause increases in temperature of up to double that of light coloured roofs or roofs with reflective coatings.
