Dear Member,
Welcome to Issue 6 of the Low Carbon Innovation Bulletin. Thanks to everyone who has contacted us to let us know about some of the work that you have been doing in your organisations to reduce carbon emissions. We're always interested to hear of the key issues facing Network members and the successes they've had overcoming them.
Four case studies are featured in this week's bulletin, demonstrating how carbon emissions can be reduced through practical applications, case studies on biofuel and recycling, and through training, education and data gathering.
The Innovation Showcase at the Low Carbon Innovation Exchange continues to grow, increasing the number innovative technologies and techniques that will be on show on the day. Details of all the organisations exhibiting can be seen here
As usual this issue includes a round up of new stories and a few tips to help cut carbon.
Best regards
Dominic Matthews

So how can you be involved?
-- Have you got any experience on a carbon reduction initiative that you would be willing to share with a small group of counterparts?
-- Or is there a specific challenge you face, where a collective brainstorm may help provide some of the answers for yourself or others?
Previous participants who have led or facilitated discussion groups at similar best practice events have rated the peer interaction to be very valuable, both in terms of exchanging experience and bringing together networks of people sharing an interest or challenge.
In recognition of your contribution, all topics accepted into the programme will qualify for a complimentary place at the Exchange.
So if you are interested in hosting a roundtable group on a topic of interest, please send an email to laura@carbon-innovation.com and we will call you to discuss the options.
Expert panel sessions on the day will cover a range of subjects, giving network members an insight into how carbon emissions are being reduced around the world, and also the opportunities that the future holds for reducing them further.
Panel sessions on the day will focus on minimising carbon emissions and creating bottom line savings, micro power generation, adapting products to suit new low carbon demands and supply chain partnerships.

In mid-May 2007, Brammer's first energy survey report from the Carbon Trust landed on Continuous Improvement Engineer Mark Price's desk following a site assessment. According to him, the Trust have recommended measures that, while relatively simple to implement, were not initially obvious to Price and his team, such as heating corridors at a lower temperature to offices and putting timers on the photocopiers and water coolers.

With road transport one of the most well-publicised culprits when it comes to sources of harmful emissions, Terry Avery, Corporate Fleet Manager at the City and County of Swansea (http://www.swansea.gov.uk/), had to be innovative from early on.

Please visit the forum here and share a tip that you have for organisations to reduce their carbon emissions. Often the very simplest ideas can have the greatest effect in reducing carbon emissions:
By installing flow restrictors or aerators in taps, or purchasing water efficient taps, you can make significant savings on your water bill as well as save up to 60% on heating costs when compared to using conventional taps.
Use reusable containers whenever possible. Use durable towels, tablecloths, napkins, dishes, cups, and glasses. Ensure that coffee machines and water dispensers allow staff to use ceramic mugs rather than plastic cups.
Consider using inkjet printers as they use 90% less energy than laser printers.
