The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM)

The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) is the leading professional body for the resources and wastes management industry, representing over 7000 professional members in the UK and overseas.

CIWM was established in 1898 as a non-profit making organisation dedicated to the protection and enhancement of the environment. It raises professional standards in resources and wastes management through education, training, dissemination of information, the development of scientific, technical and management standards and the implementation of practical competency policies and procedures.

CIWM's pr-eminence in the industry was recently recognised by the award of Chartered Status and all corporate members are now recognised as chartered waste managers.

Through its commercial subsidiary, IWM Business Services Ltd, it also organises a range of conferences, seminars, workshops and social functions as well as publishing a monthly journal and various technical publications throughout the year.

Its flagship event, the CIWM annual Conference & Exhibition takes place in June each year and is the meeting place for the industry, combining a comprehensive exhibition covering waste, recycling and resource management, the CIWM internationally renowned annual conference and a host of networking events.
