£75 billion UK Offshore Wind Projects ~ Opportunities & Challenges

Panellists include:
Allan Taylor, Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC)
Peter Wortley, Eastern Region Wind Energy Group
Andy Williamson, NaREC

This online panel debate will provide insight into some of the new opportunities within the off-shore wind sector following the recent announcement from the UK Crown Estate granting rights to energy companies to develop the biggest expansion of wind energy ever seen in the world.

The announcement has the potential to see an additional 32GW of clean electricity feeding into the UK grid,  enough offshore wind energy to supply nearly all the homes in the UK and will mean an extra 6,400 turbines. Investment in UK offshore wind overall could be worth £75 billion and support up to 70,000 jobs by 2020.

Questions to be addressed include:
* What developments are required in the supply chain to service such large scale projects?

* What opportunities will be created in response to the demand for offshore wind, the installation of the infrastructure and the ongoing servicing required?
* How might the offshore wind sector benefit from existing energy infrastructure and skills?
* What areas of the offshore wind industry might see the most promising return on investments?
