Gasfill 2000
Gasfill Ltd, a Warwickshire based manufacturer, is championing an alternative source of fuel for its vehicles, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), that will help reduce carbon emissions. The company is developing a low cost unit, Gasfill 2000, for fuelling cars with CNG at home or at work, which it hopes will lead to a greater uptake of CNG to power vehicles. The company also expects that its invention will promote future reductions in UK carbon emissions because CNG vehicles produce 20% fewer CO2 emissions than their petrol based equivalents.
The Gasfill 2000 unit collects gas from a standard domestic mains supply and compresses it using mains electricity so that it can be used to refuel a CNG vehicle. The company estimates that it will cost approximately £1,500 to convert an average family car to CNG. The company's founders became aware of CNG during the course of their work in the manufacturing and gas compression industry. With this common background the team worked together to manufacture a domestic unit that would allow homeowners to use their existing home gas supply to power a CNG vehicle. The original technology for Gasfill 2000 was transferred toGasfill from British Gas under a worldwide agreement.
Norman Leece, managing director of Gasfill, believes that Gasfill 2000 will make it easier for people to adopt CNG as a source of energy for their cars and that the widespread adoption of the resource will lead to cleaner vehicles on Britain's roads. Gasfill's vision is to draw motorists'attention to the diversity of energy sources that could be used to fuel their vehicles. The company founders view CNG as a viable alternative fuel, because Gasfill 2000 will enable motorists to refuel their vehicles at home, whilst also benefiting from reduced CO2 emissions.
