Tradical Building Lime Innovation

Lhoist UK has responded to the increasing demand for sustainable construction products by pioneering the delivery of Tradical® Hemcrete® into mainstream construction. The technology used in the production of Tradical® Hemcrete® has been developed over the last fifteen years by the Lhoist Group in Europe with UK production and distribution being delivered in partnership with Lime Technology, Hemcore and Castle Cement. Lhoist Group is the largest, global, high purity, lime product manufacturer.

Tradical® Hemcrete® comprises a lime based binder that works with an industrial hemp 'aggregate'. The plant material absorbs carbon as the plant grows and the carbon emission of the binder is low enough that the net carbon footprint is actually negative in the combined product. The carbon remains bound by the binder meaning that Tradical® Hemcrete® has the ability to lock sequestered carbon into the fabric of buildings whilst delivering healthy, sustainable and durable structures.

Tradical® Hemcrete® offers high carbon capture during production and construction, high thermal and acoustic insulation, low density, excellent water vapour permeability and high flexural capability. Its practical adaptability presents a product which can be incorporated into wall construction, floor screeding and roof insulation with a wide variety of design options and easy application to realise buildings that are not constrained by materials selection.
